Pearl River Community College’s Christmas at the River has a new location that will be able to accommodate four times the audience that was able to fit in the venue where it was held in previous years.

The concert will be held on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Brownstone Center for the Arts on PRCC’s Poplarville campus. The concert will include performances from the JazzCats jazz band, Symphonic Band, PRCC Singers, the concert choir; Brass Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble and the String of Pearls dance team.

Janet Braswell, PRCC public relations assistant, said a small portion of The Voices will be performing Christmas carols after the show in the Brownstone Center lobby.

A portion of the drum line and band will perform “The Little Drummer Boy.” A portion of the String of Pearls will be performing to the song, Braswell said.

“It’s the first time we’ve been able to combine the band and the choir to do something for Christmas,” said Archie Rawls, director of the Brownstone Center.

It is also the first time that the jazz band and String of Pearls will be performing at the concert.

In previous years, the two concerts were held on the same day in the chapel with performances from the concert choir and The Voices, Rawls said. He said the chapel only held about 200 people at standing room capacity.

The Brownstone Center has a capacity of 850 people.

“It will be much more comfortable for the audience,” Rawls said.

Tickets are on sale now for $5 and can be purchased online at www.brownstonecenter.com or by calling 601-403-1180. Telephone sales won’t be available the week of Thanksgiving due to the holiday break. Telephone ticket sales will resume on Dec. 2, after the Thanksgiving break.

The South Mississippi Ballet from Hattiesburg also will be performing “The Nutcracker” on Dec. 14 and 15 at the Brownstone. Ticket information will be available in the upcoming weeks.
