Crime Stoppers of Pearl River County and Moore’s Bicycle Shop of Hattiesburg are each offering a $1,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest in the unsolved hit-and-run death of Luis Perez on Aug. 22.

Perez, 64, was found on Hillsdale Gumpond Road at around 9 p.m. after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike. The Pearl River County Sheriff’s office said in its original statement, the family went searching for Perez after he didn’t return at his usual time.

Perez biked an average of 25 miles and was traveling west on Hillsdale Gumpond Road when he was struck by what the sheriff’s office believes was a 1999 to 2004 Ford F-250 pick-up truck, knocked into a ditch and left for dead.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Shane Tucker said previously that the passenger side headlight of the truck is broken and there is possible damage to the passenger front fender.

According to a Crime Stoppers press release, authorities believe the incident happened at around 7:30 p.m.

Moore’s Bicycle Shop chose to establish a $1,000 reward because of Perez’s dedication to and love of cycling.
