West Jones extended Pearl River Central’s losing streak Friday night with a 35-6 win at the Blue Devils’ Homecoming.
With the loss the Blue Devils fall to 1-4 after scoring only 6 points in the first quarter.
The Blue Devils started off the game with a touchdown pass, thrown in from the 16 yard line by Dylan Spiers to Daniel Rosine, pushing the lead 6-0.
“We had too many turn overs number one,” Pearl River Central head Coach Collins. “You can’t put the ball on the ground. And we’ve been trying to fix it, this is something that’s been happening all year long.”
The Mustangs turned up the heat in the second quarter with a touchdown ran in by Neil McLaurin from the 20 yard and a 2 yard touchdown brought in by DJ Sanders, making the lead 14-6 at the end of the first half.
McLaurin, increased the score 28-6 in the third with a touchdown pass thrown into Austin Herrington from the 27 yard line and again to Dakota Dupree from the 19 yard line.
In the fourth quarter West Jones sealed the deal with a pass intercepted by Anthony Kirk at the 47 yard line and ran in for a touchdown with seconds left on the clock, making the score 35-6.
“I thought our defense played hard, we played toe to toe with them,” Collins said. “I think their defensive front gave us fits all night, they were really good but it wasn’t anything we didn’t expect. I thought we had a good game plan going in but we just didn’t execute it.”
Pearl River Central continues in Region 3-5A play next week as the Blue Devils travel to South Jones.
