On Saturday evening, officers were dispatched to Highland Community Hospital in reference to an aggravated assault.
When officers arrived at the hospital, they spoke with the victim, who said she was attacked at her residence, said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief of police.
“The victim said she was in the yard of her residence, on Lewis Circle, with some friends” when a vehicle came to a stop in front of the residence, Magri said.
At that time, the suspect, later identified as Jasmine Anthony, 23, of 38378 James Crosby Rd., Pearl River, La., got out of the vehicle, Magri said. “With a knife visible in her hand, Anthony started a verbal altercation with the victim,” he said.
Anthony approached the victim and swung the knife at her, stabbing her in her arm, said Magri. “The victim said she attempted to defend herself but realized the severity of her wound,” and Magri said she was worried about her safety.
When Anthony fled the scene, the victim “went to the hospital to seek medical attention,” Magri said.
Through further investigation, officers determined that Anthony was a Louisiana resident and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department was notified, he said.
“The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department located Anthony and took her into custody on an aggravated assault warrant,” Magri said.
Anthony is being held at the St. Tammany Parish Jail awaiting extradition, he said.
