Agencies unite to rescue man

The Poplarville Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request from Derby Volunteer Fire Department at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for a man injured in a trench off of Homer-Ladner Road.

Units from Poplarville Fire Department responded to find a man injured in a ditch approximately 10 feet deep, said Poplarville Fire Chief Michael White. White and Firefighter Nik Hines utilized rope rescue equipment and track hoe at the scene to remove the man from the trench.

White said the injured man was transferred to a waiting LifeFlight helicopter which transported him to the hospital. Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the injured man was transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
