New Orleans VooDoo Offensive Lineman Lorenzo Breland promotes academics and an active lifestyle while giving back to his community.
The former All-State Maroon Tide player will host the third-annual “Back 2 School Bash” on Aug. 31 at South Side Elementary School cafeteria from 10 a.m. until noon.
The event is open to the public.
“I’ll be giving away school supplies to the kids and speaking to them on the importance of academics and staying active,” Breland said in a press release.
Breland earned All Conference 1st Team honors while playing for the Jackson State University Jaguars and has played in the Arena Football League for five seasons.
“It’s a great thing he is doing,” Superintendent Dean Shaw said, “giving back to the kids and community.”
The board met in Nicholson Elementary School’s new multipurpose building for the first time on Tuesday.
“We’re really excited about the building and very proud of it,” Shaw said. “We’re excited about our students having an opportunity to use this building.”
Construction on the building began a little more than a year ago. The multipurpose building serves as a place for school events and for the public to rent for events.
