The Pearl River County school board, in a special called meeting at 1 p.m. on Monday, trying to upgrade and improve communications between its three campuses, went with a new Internet service provider.

By a unanimous vote, the board chose to go with InLine, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., and Birmingham, Ala., which advertises itself as offering solutions in the educational field by a better use of technology.

In going with InLine, the board said that the company offered better, expanded and less expensive service. The decision prompted two contracts with the company, one for what’s called Wide Area Network Circuits, or WAN, and the other for the Internet services.

Kendall McClinton, the school district’s technology coordinator, briefed the board before it voted. Also addressing the board was Derek Lindsey, a company sales representative.

The board also tabled a decision on whether or not to approve a bid from BCI to provide the school district with a Cisco phone system.

The board met for only 39 minutes and zipped through a six-item agenda, devoted mainly to the technology and communication issues.

The board adjourned to April 1.
