Girls season getting started

After dodging raindrops for the first week, all three Pearl River County prep fast-pitch softball teams have gotten a few games under their collective belts.

Poplarville is unbeaten so far, posting a 3-0 mark entering Monday night’s game with Pearl River Central.

The Lady Devils started the season 0-2 under new head coach Amy Leonard. Leonard replaced Michael Guidry, who is the new head coach at Hancock High.

Picayune has started the season off at 2-2.

The Lady Tide fell to Long Beach 6-1, as Bethany Crawford suffered the loss. Jennifer Walker had two hits for the Lady Tide.

Picayune also fell to George County 6-4 Friday at William Carey University. The Lady Tide scored two runs with two outs in the first inning on a two run double by ———- that plated Brooke Ladner who singled and Jennifer Walker who reached on a fielders choice.  Crawford had an RBI-triple triple, and Tiffany Devore tripled and scored on a single from Jennifer Walker putting the Tide up 4-2 before the Lady Rebels rallied.

Crawford took the loss.

The Lady Tide bounced back with two wins on Saturday, beginning with a 16-0 win over Bay High as Crawford hurled a three inning perfect game.

Fifteen Lady Tide players contributed to 13 hits and 16 runs in the win.

Then, Picayune beat Pass Christian 3-1. Crawford was the winning pitcher allowing just three hits.Picayune scored two runs in the third, thanks to a run-scoring triple by triple by Devore and then she scored on a fielders choice off the bat of Alyssa Scott.

The Lady Tide scored the final run of the game in the 4th, as  Nala Carter singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Walker and she scored on a double from Crawford.

Picayune plays two games at home this week, beginning with St. Patrick tonight and then hosting Pass Christian Thursday.
