Henleyfield resident Larry Wagoner will be ordained as a Priest in the Anglican-Catholic Church in a ceremony here Sunday. Wagoner, 53, has been serving as a Deacon at Holy Angels Anglican Church in Picayune, as well as at the Diocese of New Orleans pro-Cathedral in Metairie, La., and at Summerfield Retirement Center in Slidell, La.
The ordination ceremony is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, November 11 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 1309 Highway 11 in Picayune.
Wagoner explained that Holy Angels does not yet have its own building, and that the Lutheran congregation at St. Paul has allowed them to use the facility.
The local church is part of the Diocese of New Orleans of the Anglican-Catholic Church. Archbishop Terry Lowe of Shreveport will be officiating at the ordination.
Wagoner was ordained as a Deacon in the church earlier this year, and has been studying under the supervision of Bishop D. Presley Hutchens, the Rev. Canon John Hollister and the Rev. Donald Rice.
The Anglican-Catholic Church is part of the “continuing Anglican movement”, initiated in the mid 1970s as a response to changes being made in the liturgy, faith and doctrines of the church within the Episcopal Church.
Services in the Anglican-Catholic Church are very traditional and follow a pattern of worship handed down from the time of the original Apostles.
