Picayune Police officers and other Picayune emergency personnel responded to an overturned tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 59 early Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.

Assistant to the Chief of Police Jeremy Magri said the accident was called in at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday and occurred near the two mile marker in the north bound lane of I-59.

Officers and other emergency personnel arrived to find a 2004 Freightliner carrying a load of drilling sand resting on its side in the median of the interstate, Magri said. The driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Santos Cuevas of San Bernito, Texas, told officers that while he was driving the semi truck he fell asleep before leaving the road.

The truck then entered the median on the left side of the road and became bogged down before tipping over on its side, Magri said.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and Santos did not report any injuries as a result of the accident, Magri said.
