The Pearl River Central Blue Devils (4-1, 1-1) return home to Hendrix Stadium this Friday night when they host the West Harrison Hurricanes in a Region 4-5A matchup.

Last Friday night the Blue Devils defeated East Central 28-7.  PRC had most of the work done in the first half.

Steven Kubicki scored twice in the game to pace the Blue Devils.  PRC head coach Eric Collins commented, “The victory over East Central was a good win for us. It got us in the win column in the division. We had the game under control in the first half. We seemed to have lost some of our focus in the second half. That is something we have to correct as we cannot slip up in this division.”

The Blue Devils were led by by Justin Jones, Drew Gomez and Adam Perronne on defense. Collins stated that they stepped up and delivered throughout the game on the defensive side of the ball.

This Friday night the Blue Devils will tangle with the Hurricanes of West Harrison.  Last Friday night the Hurricanes were routed by Moss Point 40-7.

The Hurricanes committed five turnovers in the game. Their one bright spot was a 77-yard scoring aerial from John Dunning to Da’Kevian Magee.

The Hurricanes (0-5, 0-1) have averaged five turnovers a game for the past four games.

Collins commented, “West Harrison has some athletes that can run. We cannot allow their running backs to get the ball up the field. We have to contain them.  Offensively, we have to be the ones that control the football.  On defense, we must tackle better and keep their athletes wrapped up.”

The Blue Devils return home to what Collins hopes is a 12th man atmosphere.  He added, “We have had great fan support this year.  That has fueled us this year.  We need to come out with energy and excitement. We need to feed off our fans to help maintain it.  We are looking forward to a great atmosphere this Friday night.

The Blue Devils avoided injury last Friday and enter the game against West Harrison at full strength.

Game time at Hendrix Stadium Friday night is set for 7pm as the heat advisories observed by the MHSAA expired October 1st. Also, the mandatory heat timeouts at the six-minute mark of each quarter are no longer in effect.
