Picayune Memorial High School recently held PMHS Night at Scooters Chicken as a fundraiser for the school. Manager, Ed David, presented a check to Picayune School Superintendent Dean Shaw and Coach Kristi Mitchell. The amount of the sizeable check, which both parties wish to remain unnamed, will be used to benefit students across the board and not earmarked for a particular department or program.

David said, “Coach Kristi and I have decided to collaborate on things for the school. Scooters wants to be involved in the community. We are family owned and operated; my wife and I were raised to be responsible contributers to the community in which we live. We have raised our son, Aaron, who owns this location the same as we were brought up. We all agree that the best way of doing this is through collaboration with the schools.”

Mitchell said, “Scooters is one of the community collaborators that we at Picayune Memorial High School are working with and are extremely thankful for. We will be having a student of the month for each grade. Students will be taken to Scooters, by Principal Kirkland and Shaw during the school day, for a free meal and we are working with M&M Printing to have a yard-sign for their lawn. We will do the same for sports programs. Students will receive recognition across the board.”

Shaw praised both Scooters and Picayune faculty and staff for the support they showed as they served food and waited tables. Shaw was present in the Scooters’ chicken suit which was not revealed until the very end of the event.

“According to reports, in the three-hour event there were approximately 120 in-store diners and the parking lot stayed packed. This did not include the drive-thru customers. We were very blessed to have a support system of local businesses like Scooters, faculty, students and their families,” said Shaw.
