Partners in Leadership for Pearl River County Class of 2013 launched into its eleventh year at a reception held at the Crosby Arboretum/ MSU Extension.

Partners in Leadership for Pearl River County is a 10 month leadership course which examines all facets of the county, as well as leadership and interpersonal skills development through assessments, projects and challenges throughout the course.

The class will visit different locations each month for an intensely scheduled slate of speakers on a particular topic. They are then asked to relate the knowledge to implement a group project that will benefit the community.

Last year’s class had two projects. One project focused on cancer awareness and resources. The second project focused on effects and consequences of drug abuse. Both were extremely successful and continue to be used today.

Throughout the evening, recognition and praise was given to Earl Glade Woods who began the group in the county and whose vision had navigated its course throughout these past years, as well as laid groundwork for future classes.

His widow, Jo Woods, had worked by his side throughout the existence of the program and has vowed to continue his work.

“We have a great class again this year and we are stepping up the effort to form our Alumni group. We have big things to accomplish for this county and the people who live here.”

As is the tradition, past graduates will return to help current class members and so continue the networking process through alumni.

2012 Class President Keith Warden spoke to the group about the added benefits they will bring into the community upon graduation and the bonds they will form with many they only met that evening. Referring to Woods, he said, “We know what our mission is here and we have big shoes to fill with the passing of Mr. Glade. It will take many of us pulling together to keep the pace that Mr. Glade set.”
