What began five years ago as a Tuesday morning Bible study has turned in to a different kind of ministry for the ladies of the Tuesday Morning Quilters.

Faye Harris, Joyce Burton, Myrtis Crain, Voncile Miles, Gwen Harriel and Jo Lynn Dawes, all of Sones Chapel discovered their love of quilting through the Bible study.

One of their first projects was making 120 lap quilts for residents of the Pearl River County Nursing Home. They also help each other with quilts celebrating births and special occasions. They say they always make an effort to personalize the quilts for recipients.

The group met Lilla Stewart through a relative and found out that she had completed a needlepoint quilt top but was unable to finish her project.

In a span of six Tuesday mornings, the ladies had completed the quilt for Stewart with a delicate scallop technique which complemented her needlework design.

On Tuesday the group met at Stewart’s home and presented her with the finished quilt.

Stewart said, “I can’t thank them enough for putting their time and effort into this for me. This is a very special project and it means so much to me that they were part of this.”

Harris said, “We are all neighbors and attend church together. Our group has a lot of fun each Tuesday, after quilting, we all bring a dish but don’t tell each other what we are bringing. One time we all brought salads, but they were all different and we enjoyed our meal. We have a lot of fun and work very well together.”

In keeping with tradition, after the presentation of the quilt, everyone was led to the kitchen where a delicious meal of parmasan covered chicken breasts, squash casserole, green beans wrapped in bacon, green salad and garlic bread were served, followed by coconut custard pie and lemon freeze pie for dessert.
