Tucked inside the Intermodal Transportation and Tourism Center, there is a remembrance room dedicated to Carver and Picayune Memorial High Schools.

On Thursday, Mayor Ed Pinero, City Manager Jim Luke and First Southern Bank Senior Vice President Billy Brunson met to place the Maroon Tide State Championship plaque donated by First Southern in the room for display.

Brunson said of the event, “The bank sponsored the championship rings for the football team and at the suggestion of the City Manager, we felt that this would be an excellent way commemorate the team for the school, the city and the visitors who come through here. We are very proud of this team and our local school.”

Mayor Pinero said, “This is a great tribute to capture the historical significance of a State Championship. I am proud that the team picture will be positioned for all to see. I am extremely proud of everyone involved with Picayune football.”

The plaque is placed just below a mural which was painted by Picayune High School’s Art Club under the instruction of art teacher, Lauren Palmisano.

City Manager Luke said, “We have a proud heritage of high achievement from both Carver High School and Picayune High. As a graduate of Picayune High, along with Mayor Pinero and Billy Brunson, I feel great pride in this display and appreciate the generosity of First Southern Bank.”
