Public invited to attend law enforcement memorial

Community members are asked to join the Picayune Police Department in honoring the memory of fallen officers on Monday at the Criminal Justice Center on Main Street.

According to a release from the department, the service will be held beginning at 5 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Memorial located in front of the Criminal Justice Center.

Services will honor the memory of law enforcement officers who gave their lives while protecting and serving their community and will include guest speaker District 47 State Sen. Tony Smith.

Last year 166 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty, two of those officers were from Mississippi, the release states. The two Mississippi officers include Senior Patrol Officer Jimmy Brooks Sr., of the Madison Police Department and Capt. John Haddock of the Grenada Police Department.

Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the service, the release states.
