Medell Berry Jackson passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the age of 97.

She was the cherished wife of the late William C. Jackson. Loving Mother of Donna J. Hester, Stephen C. Hester, Cleve M. Jackson and Mickey H. Jackson. Daughter of the late Idell Sonier and Grover Cleveland Berry. Sister of Marie Young. Proud grandmother of Gil, Guy, Charles, Michael, Kristine, Karla and Jennifer.

Medell is also survived and fondly remembered by her 11 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, 1 niece, 1 nephew and many cousins and dear friends.

Medell was a native of Vinton, La., and a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Carriere, Miss., following Hurricane Katrina. She was a charter member of the St. Bernard Crippled Children’s Organization and a proud member of the De La Ronde Garden Club. She was well loved and affectionately known for her good nature and generous heart. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all those whose lives she touched.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, La., on Friday, March 23, 2012, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
