Toys for Tykes 22nd annual bike run is this Saturday.
Organization President Tony Tarver said participants in the run should meet at Friendship Park at 10 a.m. Each rider in the event is asked to bring one unwrapped toy for a boy or a girl as a donation.
Tarver said all donations collected during the event will go towards providing children in Pearl River County with toys for Christmas. Families in need within in the county are asked to speak with Jane Manuel at First Baptist Church of Carriere, who will handle toy distribution, Tarver said.
Toys for Tykes gives toys to families anonymously.
“We don’t want the kids to know where the toys came from. We want them to think they came from their parents,” Tarver said.
The ride will start at Friendship Park and head to Historic City Hall where a ceremony will be held. Tarver said the Picayune Memorial High School NJROTC will participate in the ceremony with their cannon, along with members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, who will handle the flag raising. Mayor Ed Pinero Jr., is expected to ride in the parade, Tarver said. After the ceremony the ride will head to the VFW, where it will conclude.
Monetary donations also will be accepted during the event. Tarver said monetary donations will go to the Pearl River County Department of Human Services in Poplarville.
