Rankin County approves Sunday beer sales

Rankin County residents now will be able to buy beer on Sundays, after county supervisors quietly passed an ordinance allowing seven-day sales throughout the county.

The 4-1 vote Monday in favor of the sales has angered some who question the lack of public input on the matter.

County administrator Clovis Reed said the ordinance goes into effect once a public notice is published in the county newspaper.

Sunday beer sales have become more popular among cities in Rankin County, with Florence and Brandon passing Sunday beer sales at the beginning of this year.

Pelahatchie, Flowood, Pearl and the Ross Barnett Reservoir areas have allowed beer sales seven days a week for the last few years.
