Several longtime members of the Hattiesburg Cable Advisory Board have resigned over a new franchise agreement with Comcast Cable that one board member has called a “detriment to citizens.”
Five of the 7 board members announced their resignations Saturday. They are Chairman Ken Smith, Leon Pringle, Brown Miller, James Duncan and Jack Harris.
The board members are upset with the Hattiesburg City Council and the city administration over an agreement it signed with Comcast in August.
The board had opposed it and all 5 members who resigned said they only recently learned that the city council had voted on the new agreement.
The mayor and council will get together at a later date to discuss filling the vacant positions on the board.
