After going through a rough weekend road trip, the Poplarville Lady Hornets were glad to get back home Tuesday.
And glad to get back in the win column as well.
Poplarville beat visiting West Harrison 4-1 in non region play, moving to 6-4 with the win.
The Lady Hornets dropped three games, losing to Union, Newton County and Northeast Lauderdale, on Saturday in the Enterprise Tournament.
“It gave us a chance to see where we are, and we didn’t like what we saw,” veteran Poplarville head coach Jonathan Ray said. “We just haven’t been consistent enough so far, especially at the plate.”
Against the Lady Hurricanes, Miranda Fazande put the Lady Hornets ahead for good with an RBI-triple in the first frame. Ashton Rodgers followed with a run scoring double to make it 2-0 Poplarville.
Rachel Hickman added an RBI-double and Sam Gentry drove in a run as well to complete the scoring in the win.
Gentry picked up the win on the mound, and is 6-3 on the year.
The Lady Hornets host Purvis Saturday morning, Poplarville doesn’t begin Region 8-4A play for two weeks.
“We aren’t where we want to be, but we have some time to work on things,” Ray concluded.
