Mississippi-born opera singer Bailey dies, 67

Dennis Bailey, a Mississippi-born opera singer who performed in the United States and Europe beginning in the 1970s, has died at 67.
Relatives say Bailey died Monday of cancer at his daughter’s home in Tupelo. Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holland Funeral Home in Tupelo.
Bailey, a tenor, performed in Seattle, New Orleans and several other cities. The San Francisco Opera website says he performed there from 1979 to 1984.
Bailey, a Plantersville native, is survived by his son, Lee Bailey, and daughter, Brooke Bailey Barnes.
Lee Bailey tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/qtucXe ) that his father also enjoyed performing in Santa Fe, N.M., and at the Glyndbourne Festival Opera in England.
