McComb to promote tourism tax vote

The city of McComb will include a notice in local water bills this month to remind voters of the tourism tax election on July 19.
Mayor Whitney Rawlings hopes the proceeds of the motel tax can be used to complete the McComb Sports Park.
A three-fifths majority vote — 60 percent — is required for the tax to pass.
It would levy a 2 percent tax on motels and restaurants in the city. Officials say the tax would bring in about $300,000 a year.
The city’s board of selected decided against including on the notice a message asking residents to vote for the motel tax.
