PRC’s Yates takes state title

The Pearl River Central High School powerlifting team recently wrapped up quite a successful season, especially standout Jo Jo Yates.

Yates, competing in the 132 pound class, captred the state championship in his division at the overall state meet in the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.

Yates was coming off a second place finish in the Class 5A South State meet. He also won the Region championship as well.

Yates was one of seven PRC lifters to win region titles, and help the Blue Devils capture the league championship.

Other first place winners in region action were Malcom Fraise (123 pound class), Ramon Berry (114 pound class), Ryan Jarrell (148 pound class), Bryce Spence (165 pound class), Cody Barrow (181 pound class) and Steven Kubicki (198 pound class).

Kubicki, Spence, Fraise and Berry joined Yates as second place winners at the Class 4A South State meet.

Kubicki, Barrow, Spence, Fraise and Berry also competed in the state meet.
