Govt. plans to close Smithville post office
The U.S. Postal Service is looking to contract out some of the work that was handled through Smithville’s town’s post office that was destroyed during the April 27 tornado.
USPS say it is looking for a business that would host post office boxes, sell postage and accept packages that need to be mailed.
USPS spokesman Doug Kyle in Mississippi says the Postal Service has no plans to rebuild the post office in Smithville. He says mail carriers serving the Smithville area will continue to work out of the post office in Amory.
