The Pregnancy Support Center is holding a community “Walk For Life” at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, at Jack Read Park.
Participants are asked to collect pledge forms from sponsors and anyone receiving $150 or more in pledges gets a free T-shirt.
Mary Fowler, Executive Director of Pregnancy Support Services, says, “This is our major fund raiser to operate the center. We have pro-life speakers coming, The Director of Pro-Life Mississippi, Dr. Beverly McMillan, will speak and there will be music.”
“We start at the park; registrations is at 8:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. we have our program. We walk after wards. We will walk from there to the Pregnancy Center where we will have refreshments. The entire event should last around one and a half hours.”
Fowler says the Center’s goal is at least $11,000.
“We have done it before— not in recent years, but we need it more than ever right now,” says Fowler.
Proceeds of fund raising efforts go towards the purchase of study materials for the women, office supplies, ultrasounds and testing supplies for the Center’s registered nurse, Leslie Skipper.
Fowler says, “We have video courses for both the mother and the fathers- to- be, and we hold Bible studies. Everything we do is free; there is complete confidentiality. Clients choose their services that they would like to have and there is no pressure or expectations involved in their choices.”
Currently, two major needs of the Center are volunteers to do the Abstinence program which goes into schools and churches and funding.
