Staff Sgt. David D. Self of Pearl, Miss., has been killed during an insurgent attack in Afghanistan.

The military said Self was among four who died Monday when insurgents attacked their unit using an improvised explosive device in Zabul province.

Authorities said Wednesday that Self was assigned to the Fires Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany.

He was 29.
