Officials say showerhead thefts nuisance

City officials are having a problem with missing showerheads on the public beach showers at the Ocean Springs Front Beach.

The showers were placed on the beach so beachgoers could rinse off the sand and saltwater before leaving.

City planning director Eric Meyer recently told aldermen that he needed to replace the showerheads, which he says are being unscrewed and taken away.

Meyer says he’s had to replace three or four a month. He says the showerheads could not be permanently attached because thefts could result in the entire shower being damaged, which would be more expensive to replace.

Meyer says he’s been buying $6 replacements — the cheapest he can find.
