Firefighters in Picayune are accepting donations that will be carried to Smithville in Monroe County on Monday morning.

Donations can be dropped off at any Picayune Fire Department between now and Sunday night, said Fire Chief Keith Brown.

Brown said he talked with representatives in that area, who indicated that the most needed items include clothing, irons and ironing boards, brooms, mops, duct tape, hoses, hair brushes, bedding, pasta, water, Gatorade, washing powder, Spray and Wash, baby formula, diapers and hair spray.

Once collected the items will be carried to Monroe County early Monday morning, Brown said. The trip to that area will be open-ended, meaning if when Brown and other city representatives get there they may stay another day to help residents in that area get back on their feet if their help is needed.
