Olive Branch considers proposed smoking ban
Olive Branch elected officials will discuss a smoking ban proposal at their Tuesday meeting.
Earlier this month, the local chapter of the Mississippi Tobacco-Free Coalition asked aldermen to outlaw public smoking. An all-out ban would forbid tobacco use in places like restaurants.
A proposed ordinance has been drawn up that apparently was modeled after ones passed in Hernando and Tupelo.
For a proposed ordinance to go forward, two aldermen would have to support it, and then the board would vote. Mayor Sam Rikard would only cast a vote in case of a tie.
Several restaurants in DeSoto County have voluntarily banned smoking, and smoking already is banned in government buildings.
