Gulf to Great Lakes walk against water pollution

Members of the Ojibwe tribe — mostly from Minnesota — are walking from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to Lake Superior to focus attention on how pollution is affecting the world’s water supplies.

WDAM-TV reports that participants in the Mother Earth Water Walk passed through the Hattiesburg area Friday,  carrying a bucket of water they took from the Gulf of Mexico a couple of days ago.

The water will be poured into Lake Superior on June 12, along with water from the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans.

One of the walkers, Sharon M. Day, says they keep moving all day because they want to move continuously, as water flows continuously.
