A former George County Justice Court clerk has been sentenced to three years house arrest after pleading guilty to embezzlement.

Circuit Court Judge Kathy Jackson sentenced Shawn Laree Strahan on March 31 to three years house arrest and seven years of post-release supervision.

Strahan had earlier plead guilty to embezzling $15,848 of county money in 2009 and 2010.

The state auditor’s office says Strahan had already paid back the money stolen from the county plus $4,422 in investigative costs.

The auditor’s office says the investigation of the justice court clerk’s office began after a cash shortage was discovered during a routine audit.
