A newly formed nonprofit will oversee how $16 million in money from BP will be used to market and promote the Mississippi Gulf Coast, according to Gov. Haley Barbour’s office.

The Mississippi Coast Regional Tourism Partnership will use the money to help the tourism and hospitality industries recover from economic damage caused by the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion and spill in 2010, according to the Mississippi Press newspaper in Pascagoula.

Luke Keller, BP America’s Gulf Coast Restoration executive vice president, said the oil company has committed $34 million for tourism in Mississippi.
