$200K awarded for elementary environmental program

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement has awarded a $200,000 grant for an environmental stewardship program for elementary schools students on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The agency announced the Coastal Impact Assistance Program grant in a news release Tuesday.

The release said the grant will be used to establish an environmental stewardship program in Mississippi’s three coastal counties — Hancock, Harrison and Jackson.

The initiative will be based in Biloxi. It is mean to allow elementary students to be involved in restoration, conservation and stewardship efforts in their communities.
