St. Stanislaus defeats Pass for 4A crown

Johnny Zuppardo scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as St. Stanislaus beat Pass Christian 54-38 for the Class 4A boys state basketball championship on Friday night.

Zuppardo, a 6-foot-6 Arkansas State signee, was 8 of 8 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line to earn most valuable player honors. Davon Hayes added 16 points as the Rock-a-chaws made 18 of 28 (64.3 percent) shots from the field.

St. Stanislaus (34-2) won its first state title in school history.

Stanley Magee led Pass Christian (30-7) with 20 points and eight rebounds. The game was tied at 22 at halftime, but Pass Christian was held to just 16 second-half points.
