Pearl River Central High School Mississippi Museum of Art winners announced in Regional Competition

The Mississippi Museum of Art hosts the Mississippi Regional Competition each year for the Scholastic Awards Alliance for Young Arts & Writers. Students from middle, junior high, and senior high schools from across the state participate in the competition each year. More than 2,000 entries in a wide variety of categories, including painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, sculpture, graphic design, animation, textile fiber design, as well as art and photography portfolios are judged by a panel of judges over a course of several days. Pearl River Central High School is pleased to announce the results of its entries.
The highest award is a Gold Key and of all entries, only 50 were awarded.
Gold Key Award Winners from PRC High School are:
Kate Satimore: Umbrella Dress Design
Patricia Chastain: Don’t Judge a Book By Its Cover (Altered Book Design)
150 Silver Key Awards were presented, of these PRC High received:
Jesse Gardner: Pen/stick drawing of cow skull
Sophia Tent: Dress Design (Making dress from paint samples)
Kayla Lee: Colored Pencil Painting
Patricia Chastain: Senior art portfolio (seven given in the state)

Laura Carrasco: Dress design (making dress from window screen
Gold Key winners will participate in national competition. Scholastic art competition is the highest award offered students in the United States.
Gold Key and Silver Key winners will be on display at the Mississippi Museum of Art from February 5 through March 27, 2011. There will be a Reception and Awards ceremony to be held on Sunday, March 27. The students’ art teacher is Jeanie Walker.
