Shawn O’Hara won’t be allowed to run for Mississippi treasurer as a Democrat because he signed up to run for that office, and governor, as a Reform Party candidate.

The state Democratic executive committee decided Saturday not to allow O’Hara on its Aug. 2 primary ballot.

State law says a candidate may run for only one statewide office at a time.

Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran remains as the only Democrat running for state treasurer.

State Personnel Board director Lynn Fitch of Madison, attorney Lucien Smith of Jackson and state Sen. Lee Yancey of Brandon are in the Republican primary for treasurer.

Incumbent treasurer Tate Reeves, a Republican, is running for lieutenant governor.

O’Hara did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
