The Jackson County sheriff says he wants a grand jury to indict a 69-year-old convicted killer arrested on several new charges as a habitual offender.

Coda Lloyd Vice, who had been living in Moss Point before his arrest, was convicted of murder in the 1980s. He was recently arrested on multiple charges, including receiving stolen property, possession of drugs and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Sheriff Mike Byrd said Vice also was a person of interest in the death of Charlie Mason, a junkyard owner found dead at his home in Moss Point. The sheriff said Mason and Vice had been together before Mason’s death and that Vice had recently bought a .22 caliber rifle, the same caliber of bullet that killed Mason.
