A non-fatal shooting took place on East Canal Street Thursday morning.

The shooting is reportedly place on East Canal Street and the victim ran to the Picayune Body Shop to get help, said Picayune Police Deputy Chief David Ervin. Emergency personnel responded to care for the victim and look for the suspect, Ervin said.

Deputy Chief Bryan Dawsey reported shortly after noon that an unnamed suspect has been taken into custody.

Ervin said the department is investigating the incident. Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the victim was shot in the chest, and as of Thursday morning the victim was still alive.
