Pearl River County’s SPCA is teaming up with a national effort to entice local residents to have their pets spayed or neutered.
SPCA Special Projects Director and Spay and Neuter Projects Manager Carla Gerrard said the local chapter will be teaming up with the Humane Society to participate in that organization’s national event called Spay Day.
Gerrard said Pearl River County’s SPCA will hold its event the week of Feb. 21 to Feb. 26, and will offer a low cost option to have a pet neutered. While the exact price has not been announced, Gerrard did say it will be at deeply discounted rate.
“They’re going to be really cheap just to get people to spay and neuter their animals,” Gerrard said.
Exact pricing will be announced in early February.
“I just want to get people revved up to get people coming,” Gerrard said.
Coupons for the event can be purchased from Feb. 7 through the Feb. 18 at the local SPCA, on Palestine Road. Gerrard said the goal is to sell 250 coupons. The coupons will be sold on a first come first served basis and must be used the week of the event. There will be no refunds if the appointment is missed, Gerrard said. However, if there is a good reason for missing the appointment an agreement may be reached.
“But really, if you just forgot, I’m sorry,” Gerrard said.
While the goal is to sell at least 250 coupons, Gerrard said there may be more for sale.
“We’ll try to accommodate as many people as we can,” Gerrard said.
Local veterinarians will be involved in the event by performing operations. Gerrard said participating veterinarians include Leonard Animal Clinic, Animal Health Clinic, Picayune Veterinary Clinic, Poplarville Animal Clinic, East Poplarville Animal Hospital and Coast Veterinary Hospital.
