Evelyn Rae Mitchell Sones

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday January 27, 2011 at Sones Chapel Landmark Missionary Baptist Church for Mrs. Evelyn Rae Mitchell Sones, 89, of the Sones Chapel Community who peacefully passed into eternal life with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, January 24, 2011 at her residence. Brother James McCraney will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A Pearl River County native, she was born May 29, 1921 to R.O. “Doc” Mitchell and Mary Thigpen Mitchell. She was a retired Clerk with the Pearl River County Tax Assessor in Poplarville; and a faithful Wife; loving Mother; Homemaker; and was also a member of the Sones Chapel Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: four brothers: R.O. Mitchell, Jr., Woodrow Mitchell, Norvel Mitchell, and Donald Mitchell; one granddaughter, Jessica Sones; and one grandson, Richard Davis.

Survivors include: her husband of 68 years, Mr. J.W. Sones of the Sones Chapel Community; three sons, Leonard David Sones ,and his wife Kimberly, of Carriere, Jay Winston Sones, and Brian Keith Sones, both of the Sones Chapel Community; four daughters, Melanie Sue Seals and her husband Steve, Peggy Jo Daigle and her husband Jackie, both of the Sones Chapel Community, Rebecca Ann Roderick of Poplarville, and Patsy Rae Sones of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six sisters: Pauline Thompson of Rogers, Ark., Hazel Grant, Azoline Smith, Jeanne Kellar, Linda Stuart and her husband Huey, all of Picayune, and Verna Mae Shepard and her husband Jimmy of Macon, Ga.; two brothers, Bob Cole Mitchell of Picayune, and Michael Mitchell, and his wife Jo, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2011 at White Funeral Home, Poplarville, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Cemetery Care Fund and Sones Chapel Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
