Two days before Christmas, a fatal accident occurred in Pearl River County on Interstate 59 near the Poplarville Wiggins exit.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Master Sgt., Johnny Polous said the accident occurred at about 8 p.m. Thursday night near the 29-mile marker of I-59.

At that time, 52 year-old Miguel Suber of Niota, Tenn., was south bound on the interstate when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and entered the median rolling over several times, the information officer said.

Polous said the vehicle crossed the median into the north bound lane and came to rest on the right hand side of the north bound lane.

Suber was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was partially ejected, Polous said.  Emergency personnel transported Suber to Forrest General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next morning, Polous said.

There was no indication of a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident and no other vehicles were invovled, Polous said.

Polous said this was the first fatal accident in the state this Christmas season and the first fatal accident during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season in the Troop K District in two years. Troop K covers Pearl River, Hancock, Stone, Harrison, George and Jackson counties.
