Pearl River CC kept its playoff hopes alive Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats took a 37-19 Homecoming win over Hinds, moving them to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in South Division play.
Wildcat quarterback Melvin German accounted for four scores and threw for almost 300 yards in the win as the Wildcats assured themselves of a winning season.
“We gave ourselves a chance,” PRCC head coach Tim Hatten said. “It’s going to be tough. It was a good win for us, they are a good football team. We just have to see what happens next week.”
German threw for three first half touchdowns as the Wildcats overcame a 13-9 deficit after the first quarter to take a 23-13 lead at halftime.
German hit Jhyran Taylor on a 56 yard catch and run for a score, as well as finding Seth Roberts on a 19 yard touchdown toss and Steve McNair Jr., on a 57-yard scoring strike.
Then, to open the second half, after an Alton Bailey interception, Snoop Rollins, on a double throw from German, hit Taylor on a 24-yard scoring pass to make it 30-13.
After the Eagles cut the deficit to 30-19 late in the third quarter, German matched that score on a 1-yard skeank. The score was set up by a 30-yard completion to Roberts to the one.
Travis Bradley had a 28 yard field goal for the Wildcats as well as hitting four extra points.
Co-Lin’s win over East Central on Thursday night put the Wolves in the playoffs. The Wildcats travel to Jones on Saturday, the same day Hinds hosts Gulf Coast. For PRCC to make the playoffs, the Eagles must beat the Bulldogs. If that happens, PRCC is in win or lose against Jones.
