Biloxi employees will have to take unpaid days to help keep the city’s budget on track.
The city council voted 4-3 Tuesday to have workers take six furlough days this fiscal year.
City officials say employees taking one day off without pay every other month will save the city a little more than $600,000.
The council asked the administration to report monthly on collections of sales tax, casino revenue and other income so furloughs can be suspended if revenues improve.
Most of the council agreed in earlier budget workshops that furloughs were necessary to cut expenses. Officials say the savings was built into the fiscal year that started Oct. 1.
