St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Elementary School kicked off their Pennies For Your Park II fund raiser Tuesday with a rally and a group of enthusiastic students.

School Principal, Ellen Loper, says, “Our first- graders had each written a letter to the Mayor about the nails and splinters that we had encountered on a visit to Friendship  Park. When the Pennies for Your Park II was announced, we were elated and felt like we had to jump in and do our part.”

Each grade received a five gallon bucket to fill with pennies. Each bucket was decorated and had a contribution of 100 pennies to get them started.

Loper discussed incentives with the group. Many cheers were heard as students heard the announcements of potential rewards for achieving their goal.

“We know that the students are eager to help and excited to be able to contribute this project,” says Parent Coordinator, Betsy Gobuzzi.
