Okay cowboys and cowgirls, get your boots and spurs on.

It’s time for the fall rodeo at the Poplarville county fairgrounds today and Saturday.

The fun kicks off each night at 8, and this is a professional rodeo, not a just a few cows and horses running around in the ring.

It’s just like you see on television, with mean bulls and bucking horses throwing their riders in the air and sometimes running over them.

Last year, one bull threw the cowboy back into the stall from which he exited, and then charged down the arena and bulldozed a horse, knocking the cowboy off the horse and sending him scambling for the stands.

This year the rodeo is being sponsored by a local outfit, Herbert Theriot’s Four T stock contractors out of Poplarville, and is again sanctioned the Professional Cowboys Association.

When the cowboys ride, they will earn points that will go on their records to determine the annual standings that will dictate who will get the awards and honors. They’ll be really competing tonight and Saturday night, so the fans will be the winners, too.

What you will see includes the favorite, bull riding. There will be saddle bronc and bareback riding, calf roping, women’s barrel racing, women’s break-away roping, team roping, and steer wrestling.
