A Pearl River County man will be sentenced Dec. 8 after admitting to federal charges that he coerced a girl to pose for pornographic pictures with venomous snakes at his home in Carriere.
John Joseph Maillet entered into a plea agreement on Sept. 8 on charges of production of child pornography and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He faces 15 years to 30 years on the pornography charge.
Court records papers show Maillet has also agreed to forfeit 41 venomous snakes found in his home, several computers, a cell phone and two rifles.
Maillet, from Port Jervis, N.Y., had moved to Carriere before Hurricane Katrina, according to an FBI agent’s testimony in U.S. District Court in Gulfport.
Marshals arrested Maillet in Carriere on Aug. 5 after a grand jury handed down the indictment. The indictment accused Maillet of taking the photographs in two different periods in 2007.
The girl is now an adult, according to testimony.
U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden ordered Maillet to be held without bond until his sentencing.
