Biloxi employees will take furloughs

The final touches are being put on the Biloxi 2010-11 budget.
The new budget will require city employees to take six furlough days during the next budget year, one day every other month, along with contributing $100 a month toward their family health and dental insurance.
A special city council meeting is scheduled for Thursday to vote on the budget.
The council also voted Tuesday to reduce the non-departmental budget by 20 percent rather than the 10 percent cut they had agreed upon.
Council President Clark Griffith said the city has a $9 million beginning balance in the budget, yet at the current levels of revenue and spending, would have only about $100,000 left at the end of the budget year.
