Author of civil rights book to tour McComb schools

The author of a children’s book about the civil rights era will appear in McComb on Friday to talk about the pivotal time in American history.
Paula Young Shelton is the daughter of civil rights leader Andrew Young. Her book, “Child of the Civil Rights Movement,” was published last December.
The McComb School District is sponsoring Shelton’s visit as part of its literacy campaign. She will work with teachers and read to students at Kennedy Elementary School on Friday morning and at Otken Elementary in the afternoon. She’s also scheduled to tour other schools in the district.
Shelton is a first-grade teacher in Washington, D.C.
