Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour is asking lawmakers to approve funding for a facility that would produce renewable fuel from trees.

The $50 million of incentives for the biomass research and production is one of three items on a special session that begins at 10 a.m. Friday.

Barbour’s office released the session agenda Tuesday, but didn’t reveal the name of the biofuels company or details about where it would be located.

The other items on the session’s agenda are authorization for D’Iberville to lease land to developers for a casino and an oceanarium, and authorization for a new DeSoto County jail.

Only the governor can call a special session, and he sets the agenda.
